Yesterday I was watching a noon time show. One of their contestants sang a classic Filipino song to show his talent. The contestant was good because he sang it from the heart aside from the natural singing talent that he has. As I hear the song, I immediately thought of my late grandfather. He passed away 5 years ago due to kidney cancer.

My grandfather is just a typical Lolo but I really loved him because he sacrificed a lot for us. I can still remember when I was young when he accompany me to school before he goes to work, and the times he brings me lunch or “baon”. He used to give me “pasalubong” like sweet sago gulaman (tapioca and gelatine) and delicacies like malagkit and maja. He willingly gives me coins that he gets in his small coin purse when I want to buy candies in the store. My Lolo is a good cook. I miss his caldereta, asado and adobo. I miss talking to him. I miss being with him, just hearing those words in that song.

Wherever he is today, I wish he knew how much my family and I love him. He will always be a part of us and in our hearts. I just had to write these because the song reminded me a lot about him.

Forever, I will always remember you Mamay wherever you are.

( The song “Saan Ka Man Naroroon” is a song written by Resty Umali and Levi Celerio. It is really a love song but I dedicated it to my grandfather who I have been longing since the day he left us. Please spare me with this sad post.)
