Filipinos love Suman

Suman, as defined by Wikipedia is “a rice cake originating from the Philippines. It is made from glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk, and often steamed in banana leaves. It is served wrapped in buli or buri palm (Corypha) leaves and usually eaten sprinkled with sugar”.

Suman is a very famous Filipino dish. The picture above is a suman particularly named as Suman sa Lihiya. This is the type that is wrapped in 2’s and are served with “latik”, a mixture of coconut milk and brown sugar. Suman is always present in wedding receptions, Christmas breakfast with hot tea and of course city fiestas. They say it signifies very good relationships between families, relatives and friends. As you can see, suman is a very sticky, sweet, and delicious delicacy.
